I saw this type of mermaid whilst watching Final Fantasy Unlimited, so I thought it would be interesting to try to draw one myself. I think the hair is the best bit. XD

She's a dolphin mermaid. I always thought the idea of people mating with fish was weird, but dolphins made more sense. After all, they are said to have been born of men who took to the sea, so why could they not revert to their original forms?

I figure that mermaids have ridiculously long and luxurious eyelashes to keep all the dirt and sand out of their eyes :P I also figure that some hang out closer to the shore and get tanned while others may prefer to just sortof hang out deep underwater :D

That is amazingling a SOLID looking mermaid. She has depth, form, the arm to our left looks off, pointy, but the rest of her, looks like a 3d figure

Yes, I agree about the arm. There are all sorts of other errors here too. Like with the hands. I think they're too small. And shoulders and hips look too wide. Oh well.

I rather like her extreme curviness, makes her less human. the hands seem a little short (although that might be the perspective), but I absolutely adore the scales on her tail. You've succeded in making them look just like they would look on a real fish underwater.

THAT is really really awesome. her hair could be a bit more flowy, but I love this. Backwards veiws of people are difficult to get, but I think that you did a really nice job, espeacially with the face, that takes skill, as well. well, you're person isn't overly porportional and her face doesn't look very realistic, but I think that you have a very, very nice concept of shading. her arms and torso are AMAZING. One thing I would say- I realize that you wanted to achieve contrast between her eyes and the rest of the picture, but you have to realize that they aren't convincing because eyes are shaded, too. In the corners and under the lid, there should be shading. The reflection of light in her eyes SHOULD be the brightest part of it. Yeah, that's about all. And you achieved such great contrast on her skin- her hair should have just as much contrast in it, don't be a afraid to make some parks black-dark. That's how regular hair is. ~.o There you go. Good pic, I like the fishies.

I love how the hair is sort of loose and floppy-ish in the water... sort of like how thick hair is when it gets drenched (but it floats in the water). Anyway, I really like this, good job. The body could be in better porportion, but overall I think this is well done.

Um, I get what you were trying to do with perspective, but if it's coming closer to you, the legs would be much much shorter. They would not be as long as if it was a side shot. Also his elbows are a little long...slim it down a bit. Other wise I love it, with the background, his expression, and you did a really good job with shading and all. But that's just my perspective on it.
